Mindset Monday - Pressure
“Pressure is a privilege. It means things are expected of you” – Billy Jean King
Right now I am in a space where I am being pulled in a lot of directions. Personal and professional.
Our industry historically creates pressure to perform, the last few years it feels a little heavier.
Our partners apply pressure on us to perform, right now they need us more than ever to be the problem solver, to be the marketing expert, to close the tough file, to be the anchor in rough seas.
Our personal lives create pressure to not get too far out of balance. To remain present and positive regardless of what the day throws at us.
I was starting to feel the pressure.
I was scrolling through my social feed sitting in the sauna in our garage over the weekend and saw an old post from Jesse Itzler where he says pressure is a privilege. He goes on to share:
Underperformers want ease.
Mid-performers want credit.
Winners want pressure.
That little bit of perspective came at just the right moment. A little shift in thinking. A realization that I am getting exactly what I wanted.
The business feels the way it does because you are still here. Regardless of the market, you are still here.
Our partners trust and rely on us. If they didn’t they would be putting pressure on someone else.
Our families believes in our ability to do it all, or you wouldn’t feel the pressure to not let them down.
The people in our work and life expect performance out of us, because we are capable of delivering. If you weren’t you wouldn’t feel the pressure, and they wouldn’t be disappointed if you couldn’t deliver.
We are in a phase of the world where it feels like there is this constant flow of anxiety, insecurity and turbulent emotions in the population. Don’t get caught up in it. That’s not for winners, that’s for the people that winners are meant to help.
Customers are more cautious than ever before, they second guess every decision, they need more hand holding and reassurance than ever before.
The challenge this week is to be aware of the pressure. Embrace it for what it is, as a positive and that it is the result of doing the right things. Then help others manage it.
Continue to be the one that is worthy of the pressure and the one that finds a way to make it happen for the people in your life.
Have a great week!
